Tarmac Pathways for Colney Lane

Our clients at the Colney Lane old research centre needed two new pathways to connect the old research buildings. After several site visits and a consultations a quote was drawn up and agreed upon. To start the works our team worked on scraping off the old grass and removed from site. We then installed 150m x 3m wooden gravel boards in which were pegged at every 1 meter.

Due to the shallow root structure around the area, our team used an alternative method to create a strong foundation for the pathways. We installed a terram matting at the very base of the pathway, this will prevent weeds from growing through. Our team used a system called cell web which reduce the load to the surface and creates a strong foundation. This was then in filled with 20mm stone and rolled in for compactness.

Other areas of the patio were more acceptable to having the traditional foundations installed. This allowed our team to use crushed hardcore on top of the terram matting and then this was compacted down for the durable foundation. Where the pathways meet the road, our team installed road kerbing and edging with tac tiles for the road cross overs. This ensures that the pathways are inline with all current building and safety spec.

All of the pathways were surfaced in 10mm wearing course tarmac. This was laid on thick at 50mm, rolled on compacted down. This gives the pathway a hard warring surface to be used over many years in the future.
