It’s amazing what you can do with a blank canvas

This project that we have just completed, is a new build located in Swardeston. We started this project from scratch, as we were given a bare earth canvas to work with.

The first stage of the project was to lay a new patio area. We started by laying a crushed hardcore base down; which is compacted and gives us a flat surface to work with. The Indian sandstone slabs are then laid on a 50mm thick cement base. Each slab was individually placed onto this base; with the joints being filled and pointed with a white mortar mix. This created a patio, a seating area in the garden and a welcoming area around the front. The slabs where then used as a footpath around the house connecting both patios; incorporating drainage and  recessed covers. We then created disabled access to the house. This was achieved by installed a level paving and threshold at the front patio of the house.

The second stage was creating a garden area for the house. The area was graded over with high grade top soil; this was screened to 10mm to remove the possibility for big stones and lumps to be in the soil. Once the soil had be placed down, we then laid down good quality rolled lawn turf to finish of the garden.

The final phase was to erect fencing down the side of the house. The fencing was erected as a side boundary to give the garden privacy from other neighbours. The fencing was close-board panels on top of concrete gravel boards and posts. This was done to increase the stability and the lifespan of the fence.
